Growing the Game, One Course at a Time

Each year, the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA) recognizes members who, throughout the previous 12 months, have implemented the most successful player development programs. We highlight those operators whose efforts provide effective return on investment and an overall welcoming atmosphere for new and returning golfers of all ages.

This year, the NGCOA is proud to present the Player Development Award to the following member facilities:

  • Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston, Massachusetts
  • Los Lagos and Rancho del Pueblo Golf Courses in California
  • Carson Valley Golf Course in Carson City, Nevada

To be recognized, each course demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to player development. Although the operators at each facility approached growing the game differently and offered an array of programming, they all shared one commonality: They were a success.

With the motto “Enjoy the Experience,” Cyprian Keyes’ course layout alone welcomes golfers of all ages and all skill levels. Two courses—a 9-hole, par-3 layout and an 18-hole regulation course with five sets of tees—offer ample opportunity for players to progress from an easier course to a more difficult layout as they build their skills. To assist them in their progression, players can take advantage of Cyprian Keyes’ many player development programs.

Juniors can choose between two different memberships, weekly summer tournaments, clinics and individual lessons. Cyprian Keyes is also involved with several local organizations to bring kids in from the community: The Worcester Jewish Community Center, TeamWorks, and the YMCA.

Weekly events for adult golfers include Nine & Dine, Sunday Family Day and Ladies Day, which generated $7,000 in revenue alone in 2006. Cyprian Keyes also hosts a number of par-3 outings that allow businesses the option to tie in an instructional clinic and the club’s golf schools.

“We want people of all abilities to be able to enjoy the great game of golf by providing options for every skill level,” explains Dave Frem, general manager of Cyprian Keyes. “Our goal is to cater to everyone, whether young or old, male or female, experienced or new.”
