Worcester, Mass. - On Sunday, September 9, 2007 from noon to 5 p.m., E.J. Candies-Sturbridge, The Animal Shelter Inc. of Sterling, Worcester Magazine, and Pet Smart present Pet Rock A Benefit for the Animals at Quinsigamond Community College, 670 West Boylston St., Worcester.

Pet Rock the only show of its kind, and the largest pet expo on the East Coast to present attendees with an unparalleled chance to "see and experience it all" with any pet related gift, product or service you can imagine!

It's back, and rocking more than ever. Pet Smart and Citadel Stations-- WXLO, Oldies 98.9 and 100.1 The Pike bring us the 9th Annual musical animal benefit that reaches and raises tens of thousands each year. Bands this year include of course local favorite, Pet Rock (the band) and R&B powerhouse The Valves. WXLO will be conducting “The Cutest Pet Contest” with first prize being a trip to Aruba (for the humans)! “Blue Dog Group” famous Frisbee catching dogs will be performing along with other great dog-catching events.

A family oriented festival, the primary purpose of Pet Rock is to promote responsible pet ownership and care through education And bring attention to other animals issues at a fun filled day for you and your dog. Pet Rock also boasts live music, pet and people vendors, carnival games, prizes, raffles, kids rides and more than 200 animal breed rescues, shelters and animal welfare organizations. This year there will be an appearance by the Zoom and Groom doggie bathing van, The Boston Animal Rescue League will be performing demo rescues and will have their mobile spray and neuter unit on site. We will be awarding law enforcement officials who help apprehend perpetrators of crimes against animals, cash prizes to shelters and rescues and many more events. Proceeds benefit New England based animal welfare organizations.

But your DOG is the star of the day (all other pets must stay home). There are dog contests (with categories such as "owner-dog look alike" and "best vocalist"), a free rabies clinic and low-cost micro-chipping sponsored by VCA hospitals, doggie massages, the adoptable pet parade, professional photos with your pet, cat photo contests, ID pet tags engraved while you wait, try it yourself agility contest and the popular doggie water park to cool off.
