Dublin, NH (May 1, 2007) -- The Red Maple Inn, located at 217 Main Street, Spencer, today announced it had been designated as an “Editors’ Choice” destination in the 2007 Special Travel Issue of Yankee Magazine. Yankee’s trusted endorsement will be recommended to nearly 2 million readers. On sale now through October 31, the Editors’ Choice recommendation singles out those establishments Yankee’s editors feel no visitor should miss.
“From silky Egyptian bedding and well-stocked guest snack bars to free WiFi and a library of more than 800 DVD movies for in-room entertainment (or have a seat in the screening room),” Yankee wrote, “you’ll be pampered to a degree more typically associated with spa resorts than old New England inns.”
“We are delighted that Yankee’s editors have chosen to recommend us to their readers,” said Chef/Innkeeper, Shari Alexander. “It is especially rewarding to be the only Central Massachusetts hotel, inn or bed and breakfast to be singled out for this accolade.” Co-owner John Bills added, “Shari and I have worked hard to develop a level of hospitality, service, and décor at The Red Maple Inn equal to the best available anywhere. We are extremely honored to have that effort recognized in such an exceptional way.”
In describing the criteria used to select Editors’ Choice establishments, Yankee editor Mel Allen said, “They all share a singular quality. These are places that travelers will remember, that locals love, and that promise visitors the opportunity to experience New England’s unique character firsthand.”
Not inclined to sit on their laurels, the Innkeepers plan on Mothers’ Day, May 13, to begin serving elegant Champagne Sunday Brunch by advance reservation. Chef Shari Alexander, a member of the culinary society Les Amis d’Escoffier and recipient of three stars from The New York Times for her former Hamptons restaurant The Ship’s Galley, also operates The Red Maple Inn Cooking School, offering entertaining and informative classes on International cuisine.
Coming this June, co-owner John Bills will introduce The Red Maple Inn Film School, offering Dinner & Classic Films, Wednesday evenings at 6:30. Films will be shown in the Inn’s new wine cellar/screening room Hollywood & Vine, preceded by dinner in the Inn’s beautifully muraled dining room. Bills, who developed his passion for classic film during a long performing career at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, will introduce each film and describe its place in film history. Following the showing, audience members will be invited to ask questions and discuss their impressions.
“Spencer has been so welcoming and supportive of us since we bought the Inn three and a half years ago,” Alexander said. “We hope to strengthen and enhance that relationship by offering these unique new services at The Red Maple Inn. Yes, we’re very proud of this recognition from Yankee Magazine, but we’re equally proud of the support and encouragement we’ve received from the local community.”
