Worcester Sharks Headed To Calder Cup Playoffs In First Season

April 14, 2007

Contact: Jeremy Lemoine, (508) 929-0514

WORCESTER - With Lowell’s 5-2 setback in Portland on Saturday night, the Worcester Sharks have clinched a Calder Cup Playoff berth in their inaugural season. The Sharks will face either Hartford or Manchester in the first round.

Worcester is guaranteed to host at least two first round games, with those contests scheduled for Saturday, April 21st and Wednesday, April 25th at the DCU Center. Entering Saturday night’s contest against the Manchester Monarchs, the Sharks had won ten of their last twelve contests and will enter the playoffs among the league’s hottest teams while playing their most consistent and entertaining stretch of hockey this year.

The Sharks have strong playoff experience on their roster. Defenseman Scott Ferguson reached the Finals in 1997 as a member of the Hamilton Bulldogs, Sharks leading scorer Mathieu Darche won the Calder Cup Trophy with Milwaukee in 2004, and Graham Mink led the Hershey Bears to the league title just last year.

On the bench, head coach Roy Sommer is no stranger to playoff hockey as he won a championship in 1984 while playing for the Maine Mariners.

Be sure to reserve your seats with individual tickets available at the DCU Center box office and online at www.sharksahl.com, or take advantage of special playoff ticket packages available exclusively at the Sharks website. Don’t miss the chance to be a part of the action as the Sharks look to bring the Calder Cup trophy back to Massachusetts for the first time since 1991. More details on game schedules and playoff ticket options are available on the web or by calling the Sharks offices at 508-929-0500.
