Worcester, MA -- The Worcester Tornadoes have joined forces with Ed Randall’s Bat for the Cure charitable foundation, and will hold a “Bat for the Cure Awareness Night” on Friday, June 15 to help in the fight against prostate cancer.  Information about prostate cancer and coupons for free prostate cancer screenings will be distributed at the ballpark throughout the night.

“It is our privilege,” said “Bat for the Cure” co-founder Ed Randall, “that the Worcester Tornadoes would partner with us for this very important life-saving initiative.”  A prostate cancer survivor, Randall is the host of WFAN’s “Talking Baseball” radio show in New York.  He also can be heard on MLB.com’s “Under the Lights.”  Randall and his friend Tony Lacitignola founded the “Bat for the Cure” Foundation in December, 2001 to raise awareness about and financial support for the battle against prostate cancer.

“One of the primary goals of the Worcester Tornadoes organization is to be an active member of the community,” said Tornadoes President and General Manager R.C. Reuteman.  “We are honored to be able to help spread awareness about prostate cancer and aid in the fight to eliminate this terrible disease.”

According to the “Bat for the Cure” website, only lung cancer is a more common form of cancer in men than prostate cancer.  Approximately 33,000 men will die from prostate cancer this year.  However, prostate cancer can be treated and cured if caught early.  Men over 40 are at the highest risk for prostate cancer.  For more information about how to join the fight against prostate cancer, visit Ed Randall’s Bat for the Cure website at www.erbatforthecure.org.

Opening Day is Thursday, May 24 at 7:05pm at Quebec.  The Home Opener is Monday, May 28 vs. New Haven at 7:05pm.  For more information, call the Tornadoes office at (508) 792-2288 or visit the Tornadoes website at www.worcestertornadoes.com.
