Worcester, MA. …The New England Surge of the Continental Indoor Football League, (CIFL), is ramping up for their second season of face paced, high impact professional indoor football at the DCU Center. Roy Lucas, Jr. Owner and Head Coach announces open player tryouts on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Team Works, Auburn Mass. In addition, the official season schedule was posted and the New England Surge is looking forward to another exciting season of professional indoor football. Many of the 2007 players were also invited to the try outs with many receiving personal invitations to make it a day of practice in preparation for the team roster in the second year. Many of the top 2007 team athletes will also be at Team Works in Auburn, MA available for interviews.

Lucas states “If the open player tryouts turn out to be anything like last year, we may be looking at over 200 athletes trying to vie for a coveted New England Surge player position on the roster.” Lucas continues, “And as head coach, I guarantee that the bar is set very high for who makes the team. Coming off a fantastic inaugural year where we made it to the Championship game means that the stakes are very high for our second year in our player choices.”

In its inaugural year, The New England Surge completed their 12-game regular season at 8—4, and were defeated in the Atlantic Division Conference playoff against the Rochester Raiders, who also went ahead and won the CIFL Championship.

The 2008 season promises to be another year of hard hitting playing action on the field as well as high energy fan participation off the field. The season is highlighted by two match-ups against, Atlantic Conference rivals and defending CIFL League Champions, the Rochester Raiders. For the first time The Surge will play non conference games against Great Lakes Division foe Flint Michigan and the Miami Valley Silverbacks of Ohio. The Surge home opener will be played on Sunday, April 20th at 2:00 p.m. and its first season game is away on Saturday, March 8, against Lehigh Valley Outlawz.
