Tornadoes Sign Outfielder Grimes
Worcester, MA – The Worcester Tornadoes announced that they have signed free agent Outfielder Scott Grimes to a contract for the 2008 season.
Grimes, 24, has played all three of his years in professional baseball in the Can-Am League. He followed up a strong '06 season (in which his .387 on-base percentage was fourth-best in the Can-Am League and his .310 batting average placed fifth) with another solid campaign with the Skyhawks in 2007. Grimes has seen his Home Runs, RBIs, Doubles, Hits and Runs Scored increase progressively in each of his first three pro seasons, setting new personal bests in all five categories in ‘07. In 2007, Grimes was terrific in the clutch, hitting .318 with runners in scoring position and .351 with two outs and runners in scoring position. The possessor of a canon arm from his corner-outfield position, Grimes finished tied for second in the Can-Am League with 11 Outfield Assists in 2007.
“We’re excited to add Scott Grimes to our squad for ‘08,” said Tornadoes Manager Rich Gedman. “He does a lot of things well and can beat you in a lot of different ways. We’ve seen that first-hand from the other side, so we’re happy he’s with us now.”
For his career, Grimes is a .275 hitter, with 9 Home Runs and 75 RBIs. In his two years with , Grimes batted .241 (13-54) with 2 Home Runs and 3 RBIs against Worcester pitching. Both homers came during the 2006 season, and accounted for two of the three longballs that Grimes hit that year.
